Stuck for something to do over the school holidays … tired of always doing the same thing …. fed up with the kids saying they’re bored? Fear not … help is at hand! ‘I’m Bored’ is a new lifestyle and entertainment service that lists a huge variety of events, activities and services for the whole family and for all ages.
‘I’m Bored’ has been created by Lorraine Steyn, a team of developers and Lorraine’s 10 year old son, whose busy and enquiring mind initially provoked the idea. Consisting of an Android Mobile Application and Facebook pages, the service currently conveys information about what’s happening in and around Johannesburg and Cape Town and the plan is to expand and include other parts of the country next year.
Launched on Facebook in August, I’m Bored has already attracted nearly 16 000 likes. The ‘I’m Bored’ Android App launches for December – just in time for the long school holidays.
Busy parents have little time to search for information and often don’t know where to find things to do. The great thing with this app is that ‘I’m Bored’ consolidates family-friendly information and pushes notifications and content to the user through a simple and easy to navigate activity feed. Users can bookmark and set calendar reminders for upcoming activities that pique their interest and a map view provides easy visualisation of what’s on nearby.
I’m Bored fills a need in the market for user focused, time saving and informative value added services but most importantly, I’m Bored helps to encourage family time together, which in today’s world is getting to be a rare thing.
For event organisers and marketers, ‘I’m Bored’ provides a cost effective marketing tool for driving not only awareness of their activity but also attendance. The pilot project (Facebook only) has a number of proven case studies where events were listed and shared by users and, as a result, were sold out.
Even more appealing is the fact that the simple activity listing is actually FREE of charge. Primarily a comprehensive event diary and venue listing, the App also has a registered service provider directory so parents can look up maths tutors, ballet lessons or playschools in their chosen geographical area.
